In recent years the development of the Budapest History Museum’s Aquincum Museum has gained new momentum. In 2009 the museum submitted a successful application for the KMOP-2009-3.1.1/C grant of the European Union for the development of tourist products and attractions and won 300,000,000 HUF, complemented by a 33 million HUF contribution from the Municipality of Budapest. Constructions began in early April 2010, during which the area open to visitors increased by almost 2 hectares, and the museum space has been increased by nearly 600 sq m. There have also been significant changes in the infrastructure: a new entrance with a cashier’s desk and city wall, new visitor lavatories and an educational activity room have been constructed, and the museum resources for visitors have been increased.
Of these resources, the interactive computer games of the Virtual Experience Area are open to visitors throughout the year. Our youngest visitors can play with mosaic and artefact puzzles, and Roman children’s games (e.g. mill game) in the room adjacent to the Virtual Experience Area.

With this game you can find out about the exciting battles of the Romans and Celts. Experience the rough world of training and war as a Roman legionary or a Celtic warrior! Of course, before the battle, you can practice with a fellow soldier, where you’ll be able to learn quickly how to use the virtual sword and shield.
With this game you can learn about archaeological excavations and conservation. You’ll have to excavate a Roman grave with the appropriate tools (pickaxe, shovel, trowel, brush), and match the discovered objects with the restored versions.
In this game you’ll be able to dress up ancient characters, be they a Roman governor or gladiator, or a Celtic lady. Be sure to follow the rules of ancient fashion and use the correct accessories.
At the start of the game, select which room of a Roman house you’d like to furnish, and then choose the items (furniture, small objects, and tools) appropriate for the room.
