CLAY STOVE
Budapest – Gellérthegy house number 9, first century BC

During the excavations of 1946 on Gellérthegy, a clay stove with a rack was found built on the floor in the corner of one of the Celtic houses. Next to the 50 cm high stove there was a baking oven as well, and a big pot was found nearby sunk in the ground that people used for storing food (granary). The house had a hard dirt floor and was covered with a gable roof, which rested on two beams. The roof was probably thatched according to general Celtic custom.
