BELL BEAKERS

Budapest

This vivid red ceramic shaped like an inverted bell was made by hand with a special technique. The ceramic gave its name to the people of the Early Bronze Age (Bell Beaker culture). The typical bell shaped pots were decorated with patterns stamped on the surface in parallel bands, but there are often traces of lime and paint decoration as well. This type of ceramics is uniform on the area of the culture from Southern Spain to Budapest. They were mainly used as accompaniment to the afterlife in graves, but there are only fragments found on settlements.
