POT WITH A SYMBOLIC MOTIF
Budapest, XI. district Pannonhalmi street

This pot, which might have been part of a burial tool set, is significant because of its engraved symbolic decoration. There are figures incised on both sides of the pot. The human figure standing in the middle is much bigger than the rest, thus supposedly this depicts a supernatural being, while the smaller figures around it could be people. The small and greater discs might symbolise the Sun and the Moon. This scene might be a picture of the world ideology, or it might represent a world creation myth.
