SPOUTED POT
Budapest – Újpest

This large, biconical pot with horizontal rim and a spout-handle is unique among the artefacts of the Vatya culture. However this type of pot is not unknown among the finds of Middle Bronze Age cultures in the Carpathian basin: similar pots have been discovered on sites in Nitriansky-Hrádok (Slovakia), Somogyacsa, Csanytelek, Túrkeve, Békés, Gyulavarsánd. Research believes this special kind of pot was a tool used during some kind of ritual. The object – which probably a had sacral function – appeared in different cultures at the same time (end of the Middle Bronze Age, koszider period). This indicates that while this period was characterised by tight, cross-cultural relations, the different cultures may have had similar religious notions.
