RAW MATERIAL OF FLAKED STONE TOOLS
Farkasrét

One of the oldest quarries was discovered around Budapest, the age of the site is about 40,000 years. In Farkasrét, from the wall of a depression above Denevér street round flint bulbs were mined. The flint bulbs were dug out with antler tools then broken up with crushing stones made of hard quartzite, and finally the flint bulbs, now broken to a suitable size, were transported and made into tools. This organised flint quarrying also shows that the culture of the Neanderthal and the level of social organisation was advanced.
