CAVE BEAR SKULL
Érd

On the plateau of Érd, in a 3-meter deep depression, the site of a c. 50,000-year-old hunting camp was discovered, which can be connected to the Neanderthal. The remains of about 50,000 animals were identified among the bone piles found at the site. Most of these bones were the remains of cave bears, which show that hunting was extremely selective. One of the curiosities of this site was a pit used for storing meat, in which about 7000 kilograms of the cave bear’s leg and shoulder-blade was buried. The storage of large amounts of meat indicates a long sedentary lifestyle.
