POT WITH A SPIRAL DECORATION
Budapest III. district, Aranyhegyi street

The earliest phase of the Neolithic era around Budapest was long unknown for researchers. The preservation of the artefacts in Aranyhegyi street in Óbuda was a great breakthrough, as the earliest phase of the Linear pottery culture was discovered. This pot, decorated with spiral lines using an engraving technique, is a nice representation of this era. It was probably made at the very end of the 6th millennium BC. Its modelling shows the difficulty of the beginnings, but despite imperfections it also signifies the rise of a new, more developed world.
