The Aquincum Museum offers dedicated events and services for families especially with small children to make their visit to the museum even more special.
To make for a more pleasant lunch or snack under the shade of the archaeological park’s trees or in the field north of the theatre, families can borrow picnic blankets from the cashier by paying a deposit.
Facilities for babies
For mothers and their babies the museum provides separate baby changing and breastfeeding rooms where a baby food heater is also available upon request.
Games room for children
The museum provides a games room with magnetic and 3D puzzles and mosaics for younger children, and ancient board games for older children.
The Mythological playground between the new exhibition building and the archaeological park with spring riders, rope climbing frame and a labyrinth offers fun activities for our youngest visitors as well, introducing them to the world of Greek and Roman mythology.
Downloadable exercise sheets and activity booklets
The museums offers downloadable exercise sheets connected to our permanent exhibitions and the archaeological park for visitors wishing to explore the ancient world thematically.
Mercury’s purse – treasure hunt for families
New at the Aquincum Museum. Children can discover the museum’s exhibitions with a purse filled with small “treasures” and exciting tasks. The purse, containing the game sheet, can be borrowed from the cashier between 10:00 and 16:00 by paying a deposit.
Tickets and season tickets
Families visiting can purchase tickets with a discount and those returning regularly can buy a season ticket, becoming our ‘museum regulars’. On the last Saturday of the month the admission is free for visitors under 26 years of age and parents accompanying children under 18.
An event dedicated to mothers with small children is our ‘Roman Baby and Mum Club’, which invites parents and their children for a morning of games at the Aquincum Museum. For grandparents and grandchildren we offer ‘Bring Grandma’ with interesting presentations and arts and crafts activities during the summer vacation.
The museum has been organising events reviving ancient traditions for years and in some cases decades. Our top priority is that these events offer something for all members of the family (arts and crafts activities, plays for children, theatrical performances, mock battles with re-enactors, craft fairs etc.).
